babygoal Newborn Cloth Diapers Pack of 13 for 5-12 lbs, Preemie Girl, Reusable Waterproof Diaper Covers with 6 Inserts and Wet Bag
This set from babygoal stands out for its combination of adjustable sizing and comprehensive pack contents, making it ideal for parents seeking a cost-effective, eco-friendly diapering solution. The adjustable snap closures and multiple inserts allow for a snug fit as your baby grows within the 5-12 lbs range, which is similar to the ALVABABY Baby Cloth Diaper 6 Pack, but with more coverage options and included accessories. Compared with simpler covers, this pack offers more versatility, but requires regular washing and some time to master snap closures. The waterproof and breathable polyester/TPU outer layer ensures leak prevention and skin comfort, critical for newborns. The included wet bag adds convenience for outings and laundry days, making it a well-rounded choice for busy parents. However, the need for frequent washing and the snap closures’ learning curve are tradeoffs to consider.

babygoal Newborn Cloth Diapers – Pack of 13 Covers with Inserts and Wet Bag for 5-12 lbs Babies
This set from babygoal offers a reliable, adjustable fit for newborns, with a focus on leak prevention through waterproof TPU layers and elastic gussets. Compared to the Nora’s Nursery All-in-One, which features a more streamlined design, this pack emphasizes customization via snap closures and includes more accessories for versatility. The waterproof outer and leg gussets help prevent leaks effectively, making it suitable for parents concerned about messes, but the need for frequent washing is a drawback. The pack’s inclusiveness—with inserts and a wet bag—makes it convenient for busy parents who want a complete diapering system. Its sizing is limited to 5-12 lbs, so it’s not suitable for older babies. The combination of adjustability and leak-proof features makes this a strong choice for early-stage diapering, despite the maintenance requirements.
Pros:- Adjustable snap closures grow with baby from 5 to 12 lbs
- Waterproof and breathable TPU layer prevents leaks
- Includes inserts and wet bag for ease of use
- Reliable leg gussets help contain messes
Cons:- Requires frequent washing and maintenance

Nora’s Nursery Newborn All-in-One Cloth Diapers, 14 Pack, Washable
This all-in-one option from Nora’s Nursery is designed specifically for babies under 12 lbs, offering a straightforward, single-piece solution that simplifies diaper changes. Compared with multi-piece systems like the babygoal Pack of 13, this set minimizes assembly and handling, appealing to parents who want quick and easy diapering. The leakproof and highly absorbent design ensures dryness and comfort, but its focus on babies under 12 lbs limits its use as your child grows. The included waterproof diaper pod adds portability and storage convenience, ideal for on-the-go families. However, frequent washing is necessary due to high absorbency, and the snug fit may need adjustment over time. It’s a solid choice for those prioritizing ease and eco-friendliness in the newborn phase.
Pros:- All-in-one design simplifies diaper changes
- Leakproof and highly absorbent for dry skin
- Includes waterproof diaper pod for portability
- Adjustable snaps for a snug fit
Cons:- Limited to babies under 12 lbs, not suitable for larger infants

babygoal Newborn Cloth Diapers Pack of 13 with 6 Covers, 6 Inserts, and Wet Bag, 5-12 lbs
This set from babygoal emphasizes versatility, with adjustable snap closures and a comprehensive kit designed for newborns up to 12 lbs. It shares many features with the babygoal Pack of 13 but offers slightly different packaging, making it suitable for parents who want a reliable, leak-resistant diapering system. The waterproof polyester and TPU outer layer, along with elastic leg gussets, work together to prevent leaks, while the included inserts and wet bag enhance convenience. The adjustable snaps ensure a snug fit as babies grow, but cloth diapering generally requires more frequent changes and maintenance compared to disposables. Its focus on leak prevention and adjustable sizing makes it a practical choice for active families who want a reusable system that adapts to their newborn’s growth.
Pros:- Adjustable snap closures for a growing baby
- Leak-resistant waterproof outer and elastic gussets

ALVABABY Baby Cloth Diaper 6 Pack with 12 Inserts, Adjustable Reusable Waterproof Diaper Covers for Babies and Toddlers
The ALVABABY 6-pack with 12 inserts extends diapering beyond the newborn stage, fitting babies from 3kg to 15kg (roughly 6.6-33 lbs). Compared with newborn-specific sets, this provides a longer-term solution, though it’s less optimized for the very smallest babies. The adjustable snaps and waterproof TPU outer layer make it a flexible, leak-resistant choice, but the size range can vary based on baby growth and fit adjustments. This makes it suitable for parents looking for a single system that can serve from infancy through toddlerhood, though it may require more frequent size adjustments and washing. The larger range means it’s less tailored to the ultra-small newborn, yet it offers more value for families wanting to avoid multiple diaper systems during growth.
Pros:- Adjustable size fits 3kg-15kg, covering baby’s growth
- Includes 6 diapers and 12 inserts for extended use
- Waterproof, breathable outer and adjustable snaps
- Eco-friendly, cost-saving alternative to disposables
Cons:- Size adjustments can require some trial and error
- May need more frequent washing due to frequent changes
Best for: Parents who want a reusable diaper system that can be used from newborn through toddlerhood, reducing the need to purchase multiple sizes.
Not ideal for: Parents seeking a dedicated newborn-only solution or those who prefer a very simple, minimal system.
- Material:Polyester with waterproof TPU
- Inserts:12
- Size Range:3kg-15kg (6.6-33 lbs)
- Diaper Dimensions:15″ length x 13″ width
- Pack Includes:6 diapers, 12 inserts
Our verdict“This diaper set is well-suited for families wanting a long-term, adjustable system that grows with their child from birth to toddlerhood.”
babygoal Newborn Cloth Diapers Pack of 13 – Reusable Washable Diaper Covers with Inserts and Wet Bag for 5-12lbs Babies
This set of 13 diaper covers from babygoal stands out for its balance of affordability, adjustability, and leak prevention. Unlike simpler covers, the waterproof TPU outer combined with leg gussets offers reliable leak protection, making it ideal for parents worried about messes. Compared to the ALVA Newborn/Preemie Girl Diapers, this option is more comprehensive with 6 inserts included, reducing the need for extra purchases. The adjustable snap closures accommodate babies as they grow, but frequent washing is necessary to keep the covers in good shape, which may be inconvenient for some. Fit can vary outside the 5-12 lb range, so very small or larger babies might find less secure comfort. Overall, this pack is a smart choice for eco-conscious parents seeking a cost-effective, versatile solution.
Pros:- Reusable design saves money and reduces environmental waste
- Adjustable snap closures grow with the baby
- Waterproof TPU layer with leg gussets prevents leaks
- Breathable fabric helps skin stay dry
Cons:- Requires frequent washing compared to disposables
- Fit may vary for babies outside the 5-12 lb range
Best for: Parents seeking a complete, budget-friendly reusable diapering system for newborns within 5-12 lbs.

- Brand:babygoal
- Size Range:5-12 lbs
- Material:Polyester with waterproof TPU
- Total Pieces:13 (6 diaper covers, 6 inserts, 1 wet bag)
- Closure Type:Snap closures

Our verdict“This diaper cover set is ideal for eco-conscious parents wanting a flexible, leak-proof solution for newborns in the specified weight range.”
Gerber Unisex Birdseye Prefold Cloth Diapers, 3-Ply, 10 Pack, White
Compared with the babygoal covers, Gerber’s prefold diapers focus on simplicity and natural fiber quality. Made from 100% cotton birdseye weave, they are soft and gentle, making them a solid choice for newborns with sensitive skin. The 3-ply center panel offers higher absorbency, which is beneficial for heavy wetter newborns or overnight use. Their versatility extends beyond diapering—these prefolds can double as burp cloths or cleaning rags, adding value. However, they require pre-washing to maximize absorbency and need ongoing laundering, which can be a drawback for busy parents. While less adjustable than snap-on covers, they excel in durability and natural comfort. These prefolds are best suited for parents comfortable with traditional cloth diapering routines and seeking natural materials.
Pros:- Made from 100% cotton, free from plastics and dyes
- Extra-absorbent 3-ply center panel
- Versatile as burp cloths or cleaning rags
- Easy to wash and care for
Cons:- Requires pre-washing before first use
- Ongoing laundering effort needed
Best for: Parents prioritizing gentle, natural fabrics for sensitive newborn skin and comfortable multi-use cloths.
Not ideal for: Parents wanting quick-drying, low-maintenance diapers or those preferring fitted covers with adjustable sizing.
- Material:100% Cotton
- Ply:3-Ply
- Pack Size:10 Pack
- Color:White
- Gender:Unisex
- Fabric Type:Birdseye Weave
Our verdict“These prefolds suit parents who value natural fabrics and multi-purpose functionality but are okay with extra prep and washing.”
ALVA Newborn/Preemie Girl Cloth Diapers for 5-12lbs, 6pcs with 12 Inserts
The ALVA newborn/Preemie Diapers distinguish themselves with modern, stylish designs and a true adjustable fit that covers 5-12 lbs, making them ideal for preemies and small infants. The waterproof TPU outer combined with breathable inner layers helps prevent leaks and keeps skin dry, similar to the babygoal covers, but with a more personalized fit thanks to adjustable snap buttons. The included three-layer inserts enhance absorbency, although some parents might prefer natural fiber inserts for skin sensitivity. Compared with the more basic babygoal set, ALVA’s emphasis on style and fit makes it appealing for parents who want a more customized look and feel. The main tradeoff is that these require inserting inserts before each use, adding a step typical of pocket-style diapers. This pick makes the most sense for parents who want a fashionable, adjustable option for their preemies or tiny babies.
Pros:- Adjustable snap closures provide a customizable fit
- Stylish, modern design options
- Includes 12 multi-layer inserts for absorbency
- Waterproof and breathable outer layers
Cons:- Requires inserting inserts before each use
- Less natural fiber content, which may concern sensitive skin
Best for: Parents seeking a stylish, adjustable, and reliable diaper for preemies or small newborns up to 12 lbs.
Not ideal for: Parents seeking natural fiber options or minimal fuss, as these require inserting and removing inserts for each change.
- Material:Waterproof TPU outer
- Size Range:5-12 lbs
- Includes:6 diapers + 12 inserts
- Closure:Snap
- Features:Adjustable fit, breathable waterproofing
Our verdict“This diaper is best for style-conscious parents wanting a customizable fit for tiny babies and preemies, accepting the extra step of inserting inserts.”
Mama Koala 3.0 Pocket Cloth Diapers with AWJ Lining, 6 Pack with 4-Layer Inserts, Simply Neutrals
The Mama Koala 3.0 pocket diapers are designed to fit a wide range of babies from 8 to 40 lbs, making them highly versatile. The 4-layer natural blend polyester inserts provide reliable absorbency, comparable to the inserts in the ALVA diapers, but with a softer feel due to the athletic wicking jersey lining, which keeps skin dry and reduces discomfort. Unlike the babygoal covers, these require stuffing the inserts into pockets before each use, adding a small step but allowing for customizable absorbency levels. The waterproof TPU outer and snug leg openings help prevent leaks, similar to other pocket options. The main tradeoff is the need for extra prep work in inserting and removing the liners, which could be inconvenient for quick changes. This pick excels for parents wanting one diaper system that adapts as their baby grows.
Pros:- Adjusts from 8 to 40 lbs, growing with the baby
- Includes 4-layer inserts for absorbency
- Snug leg openings and waterproof outer prevent leaks
- Comfortable athletic jersey lining for dry skin
Cons:- Requires stuffing inserts into pockets before each use
- Polyester-based inserts may not appeal to those preferring all-natural fibers
Best for: Parents seeking a one-size, adjustable pocket diaper for a wide age and weight range, prioritizing comfort and flexibility.
Not ideal for: Parents wanting minimal prep or fully natural fiber inserts, as polyester is synthetic and requires stuffing.
- Brand:Mama Koala
- Product Type:Pocket Cloth Diapers
- Quantity:6 diapers and 6 inserts
- Size Range:8-40 lbs
- Insert Construction:4-layer natural blend polyester
- Outer Cover:Waterproof TPU
Our verdict“This diaper suits parents wanting a flexible, adjustable system capable of lasting through multiple stages of infancy and toddlerhood.”
HappyFlute 9-Pack Newborn Adjustable Reusable Cloth Pocket Diapers
Compared with the other pocket diapers, HappyFlute’s 9-pack offers a cost-effective solution that grows with your baby from 6 to 33 pounds. Made from soft polyester with a waterproof, breathable TPU outer, they provide a reliable leak-proof fit similar to the Mama Koala diapers, but at a lower price point. The included inserts are designed to be reusable, simplifying laundry routines, though they require inserting before each change, like other pocket options. The adjustable sizing and leak-proof leg openings make them suitable for active babies, but the need for regular washing and insert insertion are tradeoffs for affordability. These diapers are best for parents who want a flexible, economical option without sacrificing essential leak protection.
Pros:- Cost-effective 9-pack for value-conscious families
- Adjustable sizing from 6 to 33 pounds
- Leak-proof leg openings help prevent messes
- Reusable pouches for on-the-go storage
Cons:- Requires inserting inserts before each change
- Polyester fabric may be less natural for sensitive skin
Best for: Budget-conscious parents seeking a versatile, adjustable diaper system for newborns and small infants.
Not ideal for: Parents preferring all-natural fibers or those who want minimal laundry effort, due to the need for frequent washing and inserting inserts.
- Material:Polyester with waterproof TPU
- Set Size:9 diapers
- Weight Range:6-33 lbs
- Includes:Pocket diapers, cloth inserts, reusable pouches
- Features:Leak-proof leg openings, adjustable sizing
Our verdict“This set is a strong choice for parents seeking an economical, adjustable diaper that can handle a wide weight range with reliable leak protection.”
Nora’s Nursery Newborn All-in-One Cloth Diapers – 14 Pack with Waterproof Diaper Pod
As a comprehensive all-in-one option, Nora’s Nursery Newborn All-in-One Cloth Diapers stands out for its simplicity—no stuffing or folding required, which makes diaper changes faster for busy parents. Compared to the ALVABABY Newborn Pocket Cloth Diapers, this model offers a more streamlined experience, especially beneficial for caregivers new to cloth diapering. Its leakproof waterproof outer and adjustable snaps ensure a snug fit, but the sewn-in insert may dry more slowly than pocket-style inserts, adding a minor inconvenience. The umbilical cord snap-down feature enhances comfort for newborns, and the included waterproof diaper pod simplifies storage and transport. However, its limited size—only suitable for babies under 12 pounds—means it won’t last through many months. Overall, this pick makes sense for families prioritizing quick, fuss-free diaper changes during the early weeks.
Pros:- All-in-one design eliminates need for stuffing or folding
- Leakproof with snug leg openings and waterproof outer layer
- Includes a waterproof diaper pod for easy storage and transport
- Umbilical cord snap-down adds comfort for newborns
Cons:- Size limited to babies under 12 pounds, reducing usability over time
- Sewn-in inserts may dry slower compared to pocket-style alternatives
Best for: Parents seeking an easy, all-in-one diaper solution for newborns under 12 pounds, especially those new to cloth diapering.
Not ideal for: Families looking for a longer-lasting option, as this diaper won’t fit beyond the early newborn stage, or those wanting quick-drying inserts.
- Pack Size:14 diapers
- Fits Babies:Under 12 lbs
- Type:All-in-One (AIO) cloth diaper
- Insert:Dual-layer sewn-in
- Features:Adjustable snaps, umbilical cord snap-down, waterproof outer layer

Our verdict“This diaper is ideal for parents who want a quick, fuss-free option for newborns during the first few months.”
ALVABABY Newborn Pocket Cloth Diapers, 6 Pack with 12 Inserts (Under 12 lbs)
ALVABABY Newborn Pocket Cloth Diapers provides a customizable fit with adjustable snaps and a pocket design that allows for quick changing of inserts, making it suitable for parents who prefer a bit more control over absorbency. Unlike the Nora’s Nursery All-in-One, which has sewn-in inserts, this model’s pocket construction enables faster drying times and easier insert replacement, but it requires proper stuffing to prevent leaks. Its waterproof, breathable TPU outer combined with a moisture-wicking inner layer helps keep babies dry, although microfiber inserts should be positioned carefully to avoid direct contact with sensitive skin. The adjustable sizing accommodates small to larger newborns, but since it’s only suitable up to 12 pounds, it won’t serve as a long-term solution. This diaper makes sense for caregivers who want a flexible, reusable diaper that can grow with their newborn’s changing needs.
Pros:- Adjustable snap sizing fits small to larger newborns
- Pocket design allows for quick drying and flexible absorbency
- Includes 12 microfiber inserts for added convenience
- Waterproof, breathable outer layer keeps baby dry
Cons:- Limited lifespan—fits only under 12 pounds, so not long-term
- Requires proper stuffing of inserts to prevent leaks and skin contact issues
Best for: Parents seeking an adjustable, reusable diaper with customizable absorbency for newborns under 12 pounds.
Not ideal for: Those preferring an all-in-one design or expecting to use the diaper for many months, as it’s limited to the newborn stage and requires stuffing inserts.
- Brand:ALVABABY
- Package Contents:6 diapers + 12 microfiber inserts
- Suitable For:Babies less than 12 pounds
- Outer Layer:Polyester with waterproof, breathable TPU
- Inner Layer:Suede cloth
- Insert:3-layer microfiber, approx 12.4″ x 4.4″
- Diaper Dimensions:13″ L x 10.25″ W
- Adjustability:One size fits all (S/M/L via snap buttons)
Our verdict“This diaper is well-suited for parents who want a flexible, adjustable option that can be customized for their newborn’s size and absorbency needs.”
How We Picked
The products were evaluated based on a combination of performance, usability, and value. Key factors included absorbency, fit, ease of cleaning, and durability. We prioritized diapers that are suitable for newborns weighing 5-12 pounds, considering both preemie and small baby needs. The ranking also reflects user-friendly features like adjustable sizing, quick-drying materials, and the inclusion of accessories like wet bags. Cost-effectiveness was a significant factor, especially for parents planning to use cloth diapers daily. Overall, the top picks offer a balanced mix of quality, convenience, and affordability for new parents.Factors to Consider When Choosing Newborn Cloth Diapers
Choosing the right newborn cloth diaper involves more than just brand names. Consider how the diapers fit your lifestyle, your baby’s sensitive skin, and your budget. Understanding these factors helps prevent common pitfalls like leaks, diaper rash, or excessive laundry. The following sections highlight key considerations to keep in mind when selecting diapers to ensure comfort, convenience, and value.Fit and Size Adjustability
For newborns, a snug yet comfortable fit is essential to prevent leaks and skin irritation. Adjustable diapers with snaps or hook-and-loop fasteners allow a customized fit as your baby grows. Size-specific diapers can provide a better fit for tiny preemies or under 10-pound infants, reducing gaps that lead to leaks. Avoid one-size-fits-all options that might be bulky or poorly fitted for the smallest babies, leading to discomfort and more frequent changes.
Absorbency and Leak Protection
Newborns tend to urinate frequently, so high absorbency is critical to prevent leaks and diaper rash. Look for diapers with multiple layers or inserts that can be increased for overnight use. Pocket or all-in-one designs often offer better leak control because their construction minimizes gaps where liquid can escape. Be wary of cheaper options with thin materials, which may require frequent changes and lead to skin irritation.
Ease of Use and Cleaning
Parents need diapers that are straightforward to put on and take off, especially during late-night diaper changes. All-in-one models eliminate the need to assemble inserts, saving time and effort. Consider how quickly the diapers dry after washing—faster-drying fabrics reduce laundry backlog. While some diapers require more laundering or parts to assemble, others combine everything into a single piece, simplifying the routine for busy caregivers.
Material Quality and Skin Sensitivity
Soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic fabrics are vital for newborns’ sensitive skin. Natural fibers like cotton or bamboo are gentle but may require more careful washing to maintain softness. Waterproof covers made from PUL or TPU are essential to prevent leaks but should be free of harsh chemicals. Investing in high-quality materials can reduce diaper rash and discomfort, though they typically cost more upfront.
Cost and Value
While high-end diapers offer premium features, they can inflate initial costs. Buying in bulk or sets often reduces the overall price per diaper, making daily use more affordable. However, consider whether you need all included accessories, like wet bags or multiple covers, which can add to expenses. Balance your budget with the need for durability and performance—sometimes paying more upfront results in fewer diaper changes and less skin irritation over time.
Additional Features and Accessories
Extras like wet bags, liners, or quick-drying fabrics can enhance your cloth diaper experience. Wet bags are handy for on-the-go use and help contain odors. Liners can protect the diaper from messes and facilitate cleanup. Evaluate whether these additions are worth the extra cost for your lifestyle—parents who travel frequently will find wet bags especially useful, while others may prefer simple, minimalist setups.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are newborn cloth diapers suitable for preemies?
Many cloth diapers designed for newborns are adjustable enough to fit preemies weighing under 6 pounds, especially those with snap or hook-and-loop fasteners. Some brands offer preemie-specific options with smaller sizing or more adjustable closures, providing a snug fit without leaks. Keep in mind that preemies often require thinner or specialized diapers to prevent skin irritation and to accommodate their delicate bodies. Choosing a diaper with adjustable sizing and soft, breathable materials helps ensure comfort and skin health for the tiniest babies.
How many cloth diapers should I buy for a newborn?
For a newborn, aiming for around 24-36 diapers is practical, considering multiple changes per day. This allows for enough to go through laundry every 2-3 days without running out. If you prefer fewer laundry loads or have a smaller budget, starting with 12-15 and rotating through different styles can work. Remember, higher-quality diapers with better absorbency may reduce the total number needed, but it’s wise to have some extras during the initial weeks of frequent changes and laundry cycles.
Can I use cloth diapers overnight on a newborn?
Yes, cloth diapers can be used overnight, but you’ll want options with higher absorbency or additional inserts to prevent leaks. Pocket diapers or all-in-one styles with extra layers are often a good choice. It’s also helpful to select diapers made from breathable fabrics that reduce the risk of diaper rash. Keep in mind that a well-fitted diaper with sufficient absorbency is key to ensuring your baby remains dry and comfortable through the night.
Are all-in-one cloth diapers easier to clean than pocket diapers?
In general, all-in-one diapers are simpler to clean because they are a single piece—no need to stuff inserts or assemble components after washing. Pocket diapers require you to insert the absorbent layers, which adds a step but allows for customizable absorbency and faster drying times. Both types can be effective, but for new parents seeking minimal fuss, all-in-one models tend to be more straightforward. Consider your laundry routine and drying preferences when choosing between them.
What should I look for in a waterproof cover for newborns?
A good waterproof cover should be made from durable, breathable materials like PUL or TPU to prevent leaks while allowing air circulation to keep your baby’s skin healthy. It must fit snugly over the diaper without gaps, especially around the legs and waist. Elastic edges and adjustable closures help achieve a secure fit that can accommodate your baby’s growth. Investing in high-quality covers reduces the risk of leaks and skin irritation, making them a worthwhile addition to your cloth diaper setup.
Conclusion
Overall, the BabyGoal Pack of 13 stands out as the best choice for most parents seeking a comprehensive, reliable, and cost-effective solution. If you prioritize simplicity and minimal maintenance, Nora’s Nursery All-in-One offers a straightforward option that reduces assembly time. For those on a tighter budget, selecting a set with multiple covers and inserts like the ALVABABY Pocket Diapers provides good value without sacrificing quality. Beginners should focus on all-in-one styles, while experienced parents might explore adjustable or more customizable options for a better fit. For parents with specific needs, such as preemies or overnight use, targeted choices like preemie-specific or highly absorbent diapers are recommended.
